The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25k award cash to the MVT, which works to save the United Kingdom's independent concert spaces.

He was awarded the award on mid-October as his new release his work was named the top album of the past year.

Fender has opted to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function small stages played in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I played around the region, and further afield, when I was starting out," remarked Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these venues have shut down – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a modest fee to their ticket costs, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, raising in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist numerous local spots across Britain.

The donation assisted venues that were dealing with possible closure due to challenges stemming from floods, blazes and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations obtained funding support in upgrading facilities and technical equipment that directly benefitted musicians and audiences.

"The idea that revenue from shows in large arenas backs the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has commented.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the community center that supported their act, as well as other independent music bodies.

Additionally the 1994 recipients they gave their award to a charity for MS after a friend was identified with the condition.

"Winning was ample," said artist Heather Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we could do without the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our victory affected another person's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust announced it had saved a couple of local spots in that region, by bringing them into community ownership.

One venue in Southampton and the second in Bristol were purchased under the community ownership initiative, which is supported by the arts council and music fans who acquire "stakes" in the buildings.
