Tragic News on Cargo Plane Accident: Fatalities Increases to 13

The tally of victims from the freight aircraft that caught fire and plummeted has reached 13, as confirmed by latest reports.

City Leader's Announcement

“On my way to the Union’s candlelight gathering, I learned of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a result of the UPS flight 2976 accident,” wrote the city mayor in a social media post. “My thoughts are with the loved ones, companions and colleagues of all who were lost in this recently occurred disaster. We will overcome this together.”

Victims Named

A release from the carrier identified the flight crew operating the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts are extended to every employee who has been affected and everyone in our community area – helping you and ensuring you obtain the attention and aid you need is our main concern,” the organization’s message expressed.

Probe Details

National investigators disclosed that the UPS cargo plane’s port side wing ignited and an motor separated just after departure from the airfield, resulting in the jet to plummet and erupt into a inferno.

The safety agency announced it is probing the plane’s service record, which was in Texas for repairs several weeks prior to the accident.

Aircraft data indicated the aircraft was on the runway in that location from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are cognizant that this plane was present in that city,” remarked an official on the following day, without providing a specific date range. “We will review each aspect of service that was completed, even the Texas time, all the way to the date of the flight.”

Retrieval of Key Items

The audio device and data recorder were retrieved, and the engine was discovered on the airfield.

The units – referred to as black boxes – were designed to withstand collision damage and severe temperatures from infernos, and they seemed to be intact when found amid the remains. Authorities plan on analyzing recordings from the black boxes.

The plane’s last data recordings showed an altitude of 475 ft and a velocity of 210 miles per hour ahead of the impact.

Maintenance History

According to FAA records dated last month, a fracture on a part in the tank area demanded repairs.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which said it supplies aircraft servicing for the company’s aircraft and runs a repair facility in Texas, refused to provide remarks, but stated it would work closely when relevant authorities approached it.

Activities Resume

In the meantime, UPS Worldport operations continued last night with its express also known as nighttime procedure, representative Jim Mayer confirmed. All three tarmacs at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were likewise open again.

The UPS package handling facility in this location is the organization’s most significant. The hub engages in excess of a large number of people in the area, processes three hundred aircraft each day and organizes over 400,000 items each hour.

Community Support

A candlelight vigil was organized on the late afternoon of 6 November by the area labor union, which represents workers at the aviation hub, the firm’s biggest freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which supports employees, began the vigil with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the rough hour of the accident two days earlier.

“This incident was so unexpected, so surprising,” the mayor addressed the crowd of 200. “No one had a moment to bid farewell to any one of those who we have mourned.”
